One day when I awoke I heard God say to me, “My words will not return void”. I immediately went to my comfy chair and pulled out His Word and looked up the verse in the Bible, which turned out to be Isaiah 55:11. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
As I meditated on this verse by reading it again and saying it out loud, I heard the Holy Spirit speak to me in that still small voice.
“My words will not return void. That’s true – My words will not return void. But, turn it around to you – your words will also not return void. It shall accomplish that which you please – Your words will bring about what you have said. What you want comes from your heart. It shall prosper in the thing whereto I send it – The words you speak are like seeds – they will be planted, and a tree will grow and prosper, and the tree will produce fruit. The resulting prosperity will either result in producing good fruit or bad fruit, depending on what you speak.”
Wow! What a revelation. What you say can either work for you – or against you. It can bring about what you really don’t want to happen in your life. What you say is what you get! Or, in other words, what you say is what you pray! For example, if you say “I can’t pay my bills”, then you are saying, praying and declaring that you won’t be able to pay your bills. If you say, “My children don’t listen or behave”, then you are saying, praying and declaring that your children are undisciplined and don’t listen to you. Is that what you really want? Is that what God promised in His Word for you? No.
Don’t speak negative words. God’s Word is full of promises and we should be declaring God’s Word and promises in our life. We also should be saying and declaring what we want to happen in our life. Look for bible verses that line up with what you want to happen in your life and declare them daily.
I thanked God for the insight! I’ve also learned from my Pastors over the years that what God says to you will always be confirmed in the Bible. In other words, God will not say something to you that is NOT in His Word.
In Proverbs 18:20-21, it says that a man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil]. It also says that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. This matches up! The power of your words – what you say – produces fruit in your life and the results will either be positive or negative. Which do you prefer?
Jesus said in Matthew 12:36-37, “And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” Idle words are those words that do not line up with what God said and has promised for you. You can find all of God’s promises in the Bible.
Action Steps: Write down what you say about your finances, health, family, job, coworkers, friends and future. Are you declaring things that you want to come to pass?
In a future blog, we’ll discuss this idea further. In the meantime, here’s a verse to think about and meditate on:
Mark 11:23-24 “Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”

8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Reference: Isaiah 55:6-11 from the King James Version (KJV)
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
