Quick Bible Study: Scriptures About Confidence

Our quick bible study is about confidence, which is the Greek word “parrēsia”.

The Greek word “parrēsia” means:
1.  freedom in speaking, unreservedness in speech
a)  openly, frankly, i.e without concealment
b)  without ambiguity or circumlocution
c)  without the use of figures and comparison
2.  free and fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness, assurance
3.  the deportment by which one becomes conspicuous or secures publicity

Strong’s Definitions:
all out-spokenness, i.e. frankness, bluntness, publicity; by implication, assurance:—bold, confidence, freely, openly, plainly

Here are some scriptures from the New Testament about confidence!

Hebrews 10:35 (AMP)
35 Do not fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward. 36 For you have need of patient endurance [to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising], so that when you have carried out the will of God, you may receive and enjoy to the full what is promised.

Acts 28:30-31 (NKJV)
30 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.

Ephesians 3:8-13 (NKJV)
To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. 13 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

Hebrews 3:5-6 (NKJV)
“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (GW)
We need to hold on to our declaration of faith: We have a superior chief priest who has gone through the heavens. That person is Jesus, the Son of God. 15 We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn’t sin. 16 So we can go confidently to the throne of God’s kindness to receive mercy and find kindness, which will help us at the right time.

1 John 2:28 (NKJV)
And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

1 John 3:18-23 (NKJV)
18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

1 John 15: 13-15 (GW)
13 I’ve written this to those who believe in the Son of God so that they will know that they have eternal life.  14 We are confident that God listens to us if we ask for anything that has his approval. 15 We know that he listens to our requests. So we know that we already have what we ask him for.
